Stage 1 Remaps Across Devon

Stage 1 refers to a remap for a vehicle that is otherwise standard - no uprated turbo, intercooler, exhaust or fuel-system parts. Everything happens in software. We connect to your ECU (through the OBD port, or on the bench where a vehicle needs it), read the current map, and apply a remap file that has been matched to your specific vehicle.

We don't write ECU files from scratch or use a one-size-fits-all download. The file we apply is matched to your make, model, engine variant and gearbox, then applied carefully and checked - it is not a generic flash-and-go job. Your original map is always saved first, so the vehicle can be returned to factory settings if you ever want that.

Stage 1 suits almost any standard modern turbocharged vehicle - petrol or diesel, car, van or 4x4. Across Devon we Stage 1 everything from diesel commuters and family cars to Transit and Sprinter vans, pickups and 4x4s used for work, farm and towing, and turbocharged petrol hot hatches.

Diesel drivers usually come to us for stronger low-down torque and better economy on the A38, A30 and long rural runs. Van drivers and tradespeople want easier pulling power when loaded. Petrol enthusiasts want sharper response and more mid-range punch. Stage 1 is the right starting point for all of them because it works within the standard hardware.

A Stage 1 remap changes the engine's software calibration: fuelling, injection or ignition timing and turbo boost are optimised for real-world performance instead of the conservative factory settings. The result is typically more power, noticeably more torque lower in the rev range, crisper throttle response and, on most diesels, improved fuel economy when driven normally.

It does not require any hardware changes, and it does not remove or disable your emissions equipment. We do not delete or switch off DPFs, EGR valves or AdBlue/SCR systems on road-registered vehicles - a Stage 1 remap from us keeps all of that intact and road-legal. It also doesn't replace routine maintenance: a healthy, well-serviced engine is what makes a remap safe and effective.

Every Stage 1 remap starts with a diagnostic health check. This is a paid check, not a free add-on, and it matters: we read the vehicle for fault codes and confirm it's in good condition before we touch the ECU. If something needs attention first, we'll tell you before any remap goes ahead.

After the remap we run diagnostics again and road-test the vehicle to confirm everything is running as it should. Applying the file is only part of the job - the checks before and after are what make it a professional remap rather than a gamble.

You can bring your vehicle to our workshop in Totnes, or we can come to you. Our mobile setup carries the same professional OBD and bench flashing equipment we use in the workshop, so a mobile Stage 1 remap at your home, driveway or workplace is done to exactly the same standard.

A typical Stage 1 remap takes around one to two hours including the before-and-after diagnostic checks, depending on the vehicle. Mobile visits cover much of Devon - from Plymouth and Exeter to Newton Abbot, Torbay and beyond - subject to distance and slot availability.

A Stage 1 remap that keeps your emissions equipment intact is road-legal, but you should always declare any remap to your insurer - it's a modification, and not declaring it can affect a claim. It's a quick call and most insurers are used to it.

Because we save your original map first, a Stage 1 remap is fully reversible: we can return the vehicle to factory software at any time. We only work within safe operating limits, and we don't offer DPF, EGR or AdBlue removal on road cars.
