A bottle of additive or a forced regeneration has its place. Both work by burning soot off, and if the filter is only lightly loaded and the underlying fault is fixed, that can be enough. Neither touches the incombustible ash that builds up over a filter’s life, because ash does not burn.
That is what off-vehicle machine cleaning is for. The filter comes off, is inspected and flow tested, cleaned on our METclean XL and dried, then tested again, so you get a measured before-and-after rather than a hopeful guess.
